Gas Safe checks and boiler sign-off
HSE says anyone employed to work on gas appliances in your home must be a Gas Safe registered engineer and competent in that area of gas work, and the categories of gas work an engineer is qualified for are marked on the back of their Gas Safe ID card. You can check a licence number on the Gas Safe Register website, on the freephone helpline 0800 408 5500, or by texting Gas and the seven-digit number to 85080.
Installing a new boiler needs building regulations approval, the Planning Portal says. A Gas Safe registered installer notifies building control for you, and you should get a commissioning certificate such as a Benchmark certificate when the work is finished. For water pipework, WaterSafe approved plumbers can carry out certain work without notifying the water supplier first, and issue a Certificate of Compliance.
